The Michigan Institute for Health Enhancement’s medically-based weight management program is a 12-month program designed to coach adult patients in ways to control their weight through lifestyle modification. MIHE’s clinical staff includes Registered Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Certified Diabetes Educators, Certified Exercise Specialists, and Wellness Counselors.

NUTRITION, EXERCISE, WELLNESS COUNSELING
The AMWP program consists of three main components: nutrition, exercise and wellness counseling.

  • The nutrition portion of the program includes individualized nutrition assessments, individualized meal plans, personal goal setting, group and one-on-one counseling.
  • The exercise component of the program involves exercise assessments, individualized work out plans, personal goal setting, group or individual exercise sessions. Medical clearance from your health care provider is required to participate in the exercise portion of the program.
  • The wellness counseling part of the program includes an initial visit with a wellness counselor followed by monthly coaching calls. Visits with counselors are available for those patients who need additional help in achieving their weight management goals.

The program results show decreases in both weight and BMI (body mass index), decreases in resting blood pressure, increases in activity levels, increases in oxygen uptake, and a decrease in the number of prescription medicines, doctor and hospital visits.
